PAUSE; is an artist-curated exhibition. PAUSE; wants to borrow an artist’s eyes and experiences to investigate a specific type of art practice in Indonesia. LAF initiates PAUSE; as a break of an artist’s daily routines in producing artworks. This is a platform that opens up the opportunities for alternative and novel forms of curatorial practice and method, as well as of exhibition-making procedure.

PAUSE; is designed to be one of LAF’s annual programs. The entire research process and discussions will be documented for archival purposes and presented as a part of the exhibition. For the first edition of PAUSE; we invite Agung Kurniawan as our guest curator, to do his research, investigation, and review on Indonesian contemporary drawing.

Agung Kurniawan was born in 1968 in Jember, East Java, Indonesia. His works, mostly drawings, always show great intensity. The changing characteristics of his works originates from his critical views toward himself and his surroundings. In 1999, he founded the Kedai Kebun Forum (KKF), a space that explores performance arts and visual arts based on either the physical or ideological space; and he owns the place until now. He co-founded the Cemeti Art Foundation or Yayasan Seni Cemeti in 2002 (now become the Indonesian Visual Art Archive or IVAA).
